We conducted a multicultural experiment with society and destroyed it
The country symbol of “integration” decided to have fun by running a test: what happens if I put 100 Middle Eastern migrants and 100 white youths under the same roof? The Lord of the flies
1971, Stanford University, California.
Professor Philip Zimbardo selects 24 young men described as “balanced, mature, and not inclined toward violence.” He strips them all of their identities, dresses half of them as prisoners and the other half as guards, equipping the latter with batons. One wing of the psychology department is converted into a “prison,” or something similar, with bars on the windows and everything else. The guards are granted total control over the prisoners. But after just six days, the guards’ behavior toward the detainees degenerates into sadism, and Zimbardo is forced to halt the experiment.
The professor had asked himself: “What happens when you put good people in a bad place?”
And what happens if you put people inclined toward violence in a good place?
